What Do I Bring With Me to the Dead Sea?

Before we get into what to bring to the Dead Sea, a word of warning.

Heading to the Dead Sea is just like heading out to any beach in this respect. Whenever going to the beach you always want to minimize the amount of things you’re bringing with you. This is always good advice because you can never be too safe with your belongings. You’ll want to make sure that when you’re belongings aren’t on you, that either they’re in a locker that you can rent at some of the beaches, with a friend who isn’t going into the water, or at least always in eyesight from where you’re bathing. I haven’t run into any issues yet in this respect, not at the Dead Sea at least, but it’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to you personal belongings, especially when traveling!

Tips as to What to Bring, and What NOT to Bring to the Dead Sea

Honestly, you don’t actually have to bring anything, because at all beaches you’ll be able to buy everything you need.

That being said, you’ll likely prefer your own bathing suit, water shoes, etc rather than buying them on site.

Here’s a complete packing list for your Dead Sea excursion:
  • Bathing suit
  • A change of clothes – I have issues putting back on the clothing I’ve been sweating in all day, so I always bring a complete change of clothes. If this doesn’t bother you, then it’s not necessary.
  • Water shoes or sandals that hold your feet. Not flip flops. They’ll float off your feet in the water! This is critical on the southern beaches, and a little less important in the northern beaches. In the southern beaches the floor is salt particles and granules and I’ve cut myself multiple times in the southern beaches.
  • Sunscreen – especially for your face.
  • A Newspaper. A classic photo to take is one of you floating in the Dead Sea reading a newspaper. If you want this shot, bring a newspaper with you.
  • Two towels. I recommend a small hand towel for use at the shore of the Dead Sea, to wipe your hands, or your eyes if you got water in them. And I recommend a full-size towel for rinsing off after you’re out of the Dead Sea. Depending on which beach you decide to go to they may or may not have towels for you to use/rent, and it’s only full size towels. Best to check this in advance! The small towel you need to bring from home.
  • A plastic bag for your wet stuff! And another one for your dirty clothes.
  • Money for locker rentals, snacks, and Dead Sea Products. Only at the hotel beaches are lockers included. Anywhere else you’ll need to rent them separately. In the southern beaches there may not be lockers at all depending on the beach, so take as little as possible with you. More on the different beaches on this post.
Things You Should Leave at Home:
  • any and all jewelry
  • watches
  • unnecessary valuables
